Your Child’s Time at College Explained
The number of days your child will spend in college during their course will vary according to which subject area they have decided to study.
Generally our full-time courses require students to be in college between three and five days a week and your child may be required to attend a day in a placement as part of this. To find out more specific details of your child’s number of days please talk to Student Services.
English and maths
All students who don’t already have GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4 or above will study to improve their skills alongside their full-time course. This includes students on technical courses such as Apprenticeships.
Work Experience
All students will have some form of Work Experience on their course. This may include social action projects, fundraising and volunteering work. We endeavor to support all students to be undertaking a substantial work placement during their Level 3 studies.
We will help students to map their journey so that they feel confident and ready to undertake work with employers. We understand not all students are ready for this exposure when they join us, but our Student Support team are there to make this manageable and less scary.
You should be thinking about work experience options before you start your course and expect that on days you aren’t timetabled at college you may be expected to be working with employer at some points throughout the year.
Professional Development
At Level 1 and 2, your child’s professional development sessions will ensure they have the skills and knowledge to start working independently out in business, whilst providing them with the opportunity to work with employers. Your child will cover key topics in health and safety, safeguarding, building confidence and resilience and learning about their rights and responsibilities as an employee.
