Student Welfare

Sometimes it can be a bit daunting when your child decides to leave school and becomes more independent. In this section we’ll detail how your child will continue to be in a safe and secure environment while they study with us.

Your child’s Learning Mentor and Student Services are the main sources of support, care and information to help your child during their time at GC. But you’re also welcome to call or email them if you have any questions about your child’s education.

If your child is under 19, their Learning Mentor will be in touch to introduce themselves and to answer any initial queries.

Flexibility to change

Students don’t have to know exactly what they want when they start.

If your child has changed their mind about the course that they’ve chosen at the end of the first-term we can help them move courses. Through our student support network we can also identify if your child would be better suited to a different course type or level. We provide expert advice, guidance and recommendations on which course may suit their skills and interests.

We’ll help you and your child every step of the way with that transition.

Welfare and safeguarding

Everyone employed at Gloucestershire College – whether senior management, lecturers, or support staff – are actively involved in safeguarding our students.

As well as the dedicated Safeguarding Team, there are Student Officers at each campus who work closely with your child’s course lecturer and Learning Mentor to help keep students safe and informed about the risks that they might encounter in everyday life. Examples of recent campaigns include raising awareness of the signs of and support for domestic violence and radicalisation.

Our staff, and anyone who works with students at the College, has a background check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (previously Criminal Records Bureau or CRB).
