Meet Archie, Plumbing and Domestic Heating Apprentice at AAD Plumbing
We're gearing up for the September 2022 starts of our construction and building services apprenticeship programmes at GC. This month, we're catching up with some of our construction and building services apprentices, to see what inspired them to learn a trade and what they enjoy best about being an apprentice.
Archie is a 1st year plumbing/domestic heating apprentice with a company run by a family member.
“AAD Plumbing & Heating Ltd is the company run by my brother and his friend. So they took me on as an apprentice.
"As a team of three, we get busy as we provide a number of services: everything from first fix installations, bathroom fitting and renovations to changing a washer on a tap.
"It hasn't been a problem combining work and time at the College. James, my trainer at the College has been very supportive. He is always there for us, ready to answer questions. I’ve learnt a lot from him.
"I am in my 1st year at the moment. When I complete my apprenticeship, I’d like to set up my own business.
"I recommend doing an apprenticeship in Plumbing and Domestic Heating. It gives me the freedom to do what I want to do. You get paid while you are learning and you get your independence."
