Skills Bootcamps to kick-start digital careers in Gloucestershire and beyond

We're excited to launch a new range of courses aiming to train and support local people into new careers in the booming computing and cyber industry.

The new Skills Bootcamps in Digital are flexible, online courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build the cyber and digital skills our county needs, with a fast track, guaranteed interview with a local employer.

Available for free to those aged 19 and over who are in work, self-employed, unemployed for less than 12 months or returning to work after a break, the two courses available from September include Web Developer and IT Support Specialist. Learners will have the opportunity to study in GC’s impressive new cyber and computing training centre, ADA: The Advanced Digital Academy, at Cheltenham Campus, and benefit from access to the latest industry-standard software, an on-site library and opportunities to network with like-minded learners and the cyber-tech community.

Ideal for recent graduates, those looking to quickly increase their digital skills and fast-track into a new career, or get ahead with their current employer, GC’s Skills Bootcamps are fully-flexible and delivered through remote learning, with full support, mentoring and training provided to prepare for interview and beyond.

Jobs learners could aim for after completing these courses include Junior Web Developer, Web Designer, IT Support Technician, Helpdesk Technician or Computer Support Specialist. 

Skills Bootcamps, part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee and Plan for Jobs, are developed in partnership with employers, colleges and local authorities.

Andy Bates, Vice Principal at Gloucestershire College, said: “With the new Cyber Park set to put Cheltenham at the heart of the UK’s cyber-tech community, and digital skills becoming increasingly more essential locally across a range of jobs and sectors, there’s never been a higher demand – or reward – for people with digital qualifications. Salaries for digital roles tend to be 36% higher than average.

“As the region’s leading training provider, it is our responsibility to ensure our county is prepared to fill these skills gaps, and we look forward to working more closely with local employers in delivering the government-backed Skills Bootcamps.”
