Spotlight on HR Apprenticeships: Join Gloucestershire College’s Employer Webinar on Wednesday 20 January

Gloucestershire College’s Business Hub team is hosting a free webinar on Wednesday 20 January at 2pm to discover the Human Resources apprenticeships available at GC, essential for all organisations during these turbulent times.

Join Julie Tegg, Director of Apprenticeships and Employer Training at Gloucestershire College, Pauline Connolly, Head of Gloucestershire College’s Business School, and Myra Billinghurst, Head of the GC Business Hub team, to discover the College’s Level 3 and Level 5 HR Apprenticeships.

Julie Tegg Director of Apprenticeships and Employer Training at Gloucestershire College, explains more about the benefits of upskilling through apprenticeships:

“At Gloucestershire College, our HR trainer, Susan Walsh, has been working in HR for over 20 years and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Professional Development. She has an understanding of employee management across a broad spectrum of organisations and uses her wealth of experience to bring the apprenticeship programmes to life.

“We currently train apprentices in HR from Superdry, Kohler Mira, Haygrove, Gloucester City Council, Complete Utilities and St James Wealth Management to name only a few, so we have a wide perspective of HR across a number of different industries.

“A huge part of the apprenticeship programme is focussed on the individual’s professional development. This is because we know that the world of HR moves very quickly as laws change every year, so it’s essential for every HR professional to be dynamic, proactive and keep their finger on the pulse for the latest updates.

“If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s the need for businesses to be adaptable and responsive to their environment. You never know what’s around the corner so it’s crucial for businesses to have reliable, trained professionals as part of their HR team to help steady the ship during change.

“That’s why we have adapted our HR Level 3 and Level 5 apprenticeships to include managing Covid restrictions and the impact of the pandemic within an organisation's HR department. It important for HR professionals to take what we have learnt, and what we are still learning, from the Covid pandemic and apply it to help future proof their organisation.

“Our Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship standard is a great entry point to HR qualifications where apprentices will cover everything about how an organisation is developed and its culture, values and mission. Along with managing sickness absence, having difficult conversation with employees, talent management and legislation, this apprenticeship programme provide a fantastic foundation for all HR professionals. Apprentices will gain a Level 3 Certificate in Human Resource Practice and student membership of CIPD (Chartered Institute of Professional Development).

“Our Level 5 HR Consultant Apprenticeship is ideal for existing employees working within an HR department, who are looking to develop and progress in their career. Providing strategic and management skills, apprentices will confidently be able to lead the delivery of HR solutions to business challenges. This programme is perfect for HR Consultants, HR Partners, HR Talent Managers and HR Operations Managers. Apprentices will gain a Level 5 Certificate in Human Resource Practice."

Gloucestershire College can upskill current HR team members or new recruits within your organisation. Their apprenticeship cohorts are made up of like-minded professionals from local businesses based in and around Gloucestershire who can share their experiences and also learn from each other.

Apprenticeships are open to anyone aged 16 or over and are not just for school leavers or entry level qualifications. Even experienced professionals can use apprenticeships to train and learn new skills.

Paid for by your apprenticeship levy or either 100% or 95% funded through the government, apprenticeships are a very affordable way to train both your current staff and new recruits.

According to the National Apprenticeship Service:

  • 86% of employers said apprenticeships helped them develop skills relevant to their organisation
  • 78% of employers said apprenticeships helped them improve productivity
  • 74% of employers said apprenticeships helped them improve the quality of their product or service

Plus, with incentive payments available for employers of up to £3,000 per apprentice hired before 31 March 2021, it’s a win-win for businesses in these unprecedented times.
