HPR Services LTD has grown and developed since they started trading five years ago. The original business model had apprenticeships right at the core of their organisation and this still remains the case today. The widely anticipated project to create Gloucestershire College’s new £3m Institute of Technology facilities at its Cheltenham campus has commenced.

The redevelopment will see the creation of a brand new cyber and IT area, with specialist computing labs, state of the art attack and defence rooms, forensic tool kits, eco study pods, a dedicated entrance and an open study and networking area. The engineering teaching and learning area is also being extensively refurbished with dedicated spaces for those studying higher level engineering in Cheltenham.

Gloucestershire College is delighted to announce that there are 85 vacancies available to motivated young people across Gloucestershire, through the government’s Kickstart Scheme. The new incentive, launched in October, was created to support 16 to 24-year-olds in receipt of Universal Credit, to reduce the risk of them becoming long-term unemployed. It offers a six-month paid job with a local employer, funded by the government.

Any business who hires / has hired a new apprentice between 1 August 2020 and 31 March 2021 is currently eligible to receive the following incentive payments from the government of £2,000 for every new apprentice aged 16-24 and £1500 for every new apprentice aged 25 and over. This is addition to a further £1,000 if the apprentice is aged 16 to 18-years-old. Find out how to apply for these incentives, via the Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS).

Scale Up 4 Growth (S4G), a funding and support programme that brings together experts from Gloucestershire College, UWE Bristol and NatWest, will deliver grant funding and support to businesses in Gloucestershire. The UK could face a “catastrophic gap” in digital skills warned a recent report published by the Learning and Work Institute and WorldSkills UK. Despite the report’s findings – one being that nationally, young people studying IT subjects is declining – Gloucestershire College has again bucked the trend, with an increased demand for its IT, cyber and digital courses and apprenticeships. Student applications for September 2021 starts have significantly grown across the board, with applications for the College’s university level courses – computing and digital degrees, HNCs and HNDs increasing by a massive 143% year on year. Local businesses have answered the call to action from Gloucestershire College to provide almost 200 Kickstart Scheme placements for young people across the county. Successful placements are underway but more employers are still encouraged to step forward. Gloucestershire College is looking for businesses of all sizes and sectors to provide six-month work placements for young people aged 16-24-years-old. Gloucestershire College is delighted to be the first college in England to offer a degree apprenticeship recognised by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) – a part of GCHQ, for delivering quality education and training. The Integrated Degree Apprenticeship in Cyber Security, delivered in partnership with the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), has been awarded provisional certification by the UK’s cyber experts, in the latest round of its certified degree initiative. Cheltenham’s Economic Recovery Task Force, the public-private leadership body formed to spearhead Cheltenham’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, has today launched a new survey targeting employers in the town with the aim of understanding perceptions and attitudes towards apprenticeships and how they can support business recovery in the town.

We couldn’t be prouder of our apprentices who have secured places in the final for the GlosLive Apprenticeship Awards 2021. Meet Rhiannon Howells, one of the finalists and an apprentice at Longlevens Infant school. Rhiannon is working as a receptionist at the school while completing her Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship.

Cheltenham Campus was buzzing with excitement as it welcomed over 100 VIP guests from the cyber-tech industry to the official opening of its £3m Advanced Digital Academy (ADA), a state-of-the-art cyber and IT training facility that offers an exceptional learning environment for GC computing and cyber students and apprentices.

We're proud to be the first college in the country to drive decarbonisation and pledge to be carbon zero by 2030 - that's 20 years ahead of the UK Government’s commitment to 2050. This means the carbon we generate running all of our campuses will be 100% offset by the carbon we save operating renewably and responsibly.

In July 2020, the government announced new incentive payments for employers to encourage the recruitment of new apprentices. Originally planned to end on 31 January 2021, the incentive payments have now been extended for a fourth time to January 2022.

The amount each business will receive for every new apprentice hired also increased to £3,000 from April 2021. With the existing £1000 incentive for taking on a 16-18 apprentice, this now means businesses will receive up to £4000 per apprentice recruited.
