At Gloucestershire College, we are proud to offer a large portfolio of specialist IT and cyber apprenticeships. All our programmes are designed and developed with employers to ensure they deliver the right skills and knowledge for their workforce.

IT and cyber forms an important part of our offering at the College, as we want to develop the next generation of talent. We have so many exciting cyber and IT developments happening locally in Cheltenham and Gloucester forming the ecosystem of the county.

We are training the next generation of exceptional technical talent to help businesses prosper with the skills they need.

At the cutting edge

We have been running our new apprenticeship standards for IT and cyber for the last three years. But that doesn’t mean they have stayed the same. Our standards are constantly updating to keep up with the incredibly fast-paced industry, ensuring our apprentices are always at forefront of technology and that we provide the very best training for local businesses.  

That’s the most important thing about our apprenticeships. They are current, agile, fluid and flexible – designed to suit the requirements of both our employers and apprentices.

Our portfolio of IT courses has grown to offer our apprentices and employers a total of seven different pathways to specialise within the IT and cyber industry.

Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship (Level 3)

Software Apprenticeships:

Network Engineer Apprenticeship (Level 4)

Cyber Security Apprenticeships:

Outstanding facilities and learning

We are proud to be part of the WEIOT (West of England Institute of Technology) which not only recognises our commitment to the future of technical talent but has provided us with £3 million to develop world-leading facilities at our Cheltenham campus.

The prototype rooms developed at our Gloucester campus ahead of the launch in 2021, provide our apprentices with a taste of what’s to come. Our cyber rooms are completely off-network and are equipped with the latest, cutting edge equipment and software to ensure our apprentices and students get the very best from their learning.

Our IT and cyber teams are headed up by a team of industry experts consisting of Andrew Cracknell, Bob Higgie, Emma Littlefair and Len Shand who collectively deliver GC’s IT and Cyber apprenticeships in Infrastructure, Software, Networking and Cyber Security. Each with their own specialisms and successful careers within the industry, they are able to put real-world experience into their teaching.

Applying knowledge and skills in the workplace

For apprenticeships, it’s all about both knowledge and competence. We have designed our IT apprenticeships to be delivered in block release. Apprentices come into college for a whole week to intensively learn a subject. They then take the knowledge they have learnt back to their workplace to implement it. Our team of trainers and assessors then come out to our apprentices in their workplace to help put the theory into practice by working on projects to build their competencies around it.

Open to all

We have a range of starts throughout the year. If the demand is greater from employers, we will put on even more cohorts.

Apprenticeships are not just for 16-18 year olds or school leavers. Apprentices can join at any age and they don’t need to be brand new employees. Apprentices can be existing employees who are developing their knowledge and skills further to progress within an organisation. Our oldest apprentice is actually 54 at Gloucestershire College. Apprenticeships are open to all and provide a brilliant route to train, whether that is at entry or an advanced level.

We work with over 1,000 employers to deliver apprenticeships across our full range of apprenticeship programmes. More and more businesses are realising the value of apprenticeships for their organisation and we are working with new employers every day.
