Support for young people wanting to work

13 August 2020

Following the government announcement to inject £111million into traineeships, Gloucestershire College has transformed its existing Skills Accelerator programme to include a traineeship, to offer even more value to the county’s young people and economy.

Starting on Monday 12 October, the successful Skills Accelerator programme includes an eight-week intensive employability course, plus a six-week traineeship to put those skills into practise; providing the knowledge and experience needed to move into a job or apprenticeship.

A traineeship is essentially a work placement available to anyone aged 16-24 who wants to work or undertake an apprenticeship, but needs a little help getting there.

In college, learners will gain qualifications in social media and online safety, equality and diversity, and mental health and wellbeing, alongside training in transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, customer service and interviewing.

Plus, our experienced teams will support them with writing stand-out CVs, improving their English and maths if needed, and securing and preparing for their traineeship.

In the workplace, learners will develop through a high-quality placement, plus get an interview for an apprenticeship or job if one is available. While the traineeship is not a paid position, employers can support learners with expenses for travel and meals, and the experience gained will be invaluable for future employment.

Those in receipt of certain state benefits will still receive their entitlement throughout the traineeship programme.

Aimee Nutbrown, Head of Commerical, said: Young people in Gloucestershire need more support than ever to prepare them for good job opportunities. Some may not have the confidence, skills or experience to gain meaningful employment, which is why we have created the Skills Accelerator and Traineeships programme.

“Gloucestershire College has the support teamsrelationships with local employersaward-winning apprenticeships and apprenticeship opportunities available, making us the number one place to start your career journey.
