Meet the GC Experts: Digital Marketing Apprenticeships

25 September 2019

At GC, we support learners and businesses with professional training programmes that provide professionally-recognised qualifications, as well as invaluable skills and knowledge which can be implemented in the workplace.

This time, we catch up with the experts behind GC’s marketing and digital marketing apprenticeships.

Meet Nick Workman, Trainer Assessor for marketing apprenticeships at GC since March 2019

Having previously worked as a Retail Manager, Nick has been training and assessing for over 10 years now, at various colleges and private providers. Starting off in general business, retail and customer service, he became a Digital Marketing Assessor three years ago, having sparked his passion for marketing from his background in music.

I have always been involved in music, since I was a teenager, and I am part of a rock band called Vega which I promote on Spotify, as well as deal with all the band’s social media, tours, merchandise, YouTube etc.

“One of the things I love about marketing is that it is applicable to so many different types of industries. It’s a great career path for many young people, as they don’t realise they actually are building marketing skills day to day; developing their content creation and social media skills.”

Nick supports apprentices and businesses with three marketing apprenticeships, which are all delivered completely in the workplace. Marketing Level 2 and Level 3 are both generalist qualifications providing a good foundation in marketing, whereas the Digital Marketing Apprenticeship is a standard and provides a more in-depth, specialist digital route into marketing.

“I really enjoy the variation I have in this role. Training is delivered in the workplace so I get to go out to a variety of different businesses across Gloucestershire; it keeps it fresh. We have apprentices with a range of businesses, including marketing agencies and larger organisations with marketing departments. One of my current apprentices works for a business which is launching a brand new vegan food brand. It’s very interesting to be there and see that exciting project from start to finish, and a great experience for the apprentice to be involved in that new product launch”.

The courses Nick delivers focus on deoping the knowledge and skills to plan and implement a multi-channel approach to marketing campaigns. Digital Marketing takes learners to the next level of maximising the use of analytics tools, including google and social media analytics, and the programme is highly driven by professional reporting and effectively analysing data.

“The marketing courses we offer at GC provide businesses with well-rounded, competent digital marketers who are up-to-date with the latest trends and are able to work effectively as part of the marketing team.”
