"By the time I finished sixth form I wanted to work and earn some money. Although I didn’t want to study full time, I did want to continue studying in order to get a further qualification and progress my career. An apprenticeship was the obvious choice. The fact that there was a clear structure which lead to a recognized qualification gave me the confidence to pursue an apprenticeship. The lecturers at the College provided good support and were always happy to help if I was having problems with a particular topic or assignment.
My top tip when applying for apprenticeships is:
"You learn on the job doing an apprenticeship. Rather than studying and then having to learn how to put that knowledge into practice, you can apply what you’ve learned straight away. A typical newly qualified solicitor might have 6-12 months’ experience in the area of law they qualify into. Because of the structure of my apprenticeship I had over 2 years’ experience of employment law by the time I qualified."
