Tom Smith
I didn’t know what career path I wanted to take. I left Sixth Form with A Levels in Geography, Business and Economics and got a job in a warehouse.
I had always had an interest in IT and when I discovered Cyber Security and its wide range of career paths, it seemed almost tailored to what I was seeking. I gained a great baseline of knowledge which I was able to build upon and get my first job in the industry. I’m often leaning on what I learnt in at college in my current role.
I appreciated and enjoyed the passion that the lecturers displayed for each topic, making even the mundane parts engaging. I also enjoyed the practical aspects of the course, putting together PCs or making and testing our own Ethernet cables.
It is never too late to start a career change. I came back to college at 20 feeling ancient compared to my 16-17 year old peers but with the right attitude you can easily springboard from college and hit the ground running with a career in cyber.
