Holly Brown

I wasn’t planning on going to college, but after attending an open day I knew I wanted to be an engineer. I completed a Level 2 course, and am now completing a Level 3 Apprenticeship with Total Metal Products in the Forest of Dean as I wanted to earn whilst learning.

It suits me perfectly as I like doing hands-on work and fixing things. I‘ve always liked making and learning new things, and my apprenticeship has already taught me lots about different tools and milling techniques.

I work in a really supportive team, and my lecturers have been great. I think that more schools should promote engineering careers to young women, as it’s a great career to get into. Nobody should worry that it’s a male dominated industry, because you’re treated the same as anyone else. Go into it with an open mind and I think you’ll be surprised.
