Catherine Serrell
Travel and tourism not only helped me develop soft skills like customer service and sector knowledge, but it gave me confidence to do new things. For the events conferences and exhibitions unit, I hosted a stand about Jordan and really enjoyed presenting to students, teachers and businesses.
I volunteered for two weeks in Tenerife and did things I never would have had the opportunity or confidence to do, like horse riding in the mountains, dog walking at an animal shelter, going on boat trips and educating the public the AWDF (African Women’s Development Fund).
My lecturers provided support at any time. During my first year I was eligible for a bursary, which really helped me fund my lunch too.
I’m currently working as a tutor for children aged 4-16 and hope to one day become a character or parade performer at a Disney Park!
