Amelia Thomas

I studied at Wyedean School and Sixth Form where I took History, Maths, Computer Science and Physics for A Levels. My interest in cyber was sparked when I went on a CyberFirst Advanced residential course which I loved, so thought why not pursue cyber security as a career choice! I came to Gloucestershire College to start a HNC (Level 4) and now a HND (Level 5) in Digital Forensics and Cyber Security.

In March, I was lucky enough to be involved in a live event with CyNam. It was something that I wouldn’t normally put myself forward for but I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and I’m really pleased I did it! It was a great experience to meet so many industry leading employers.

The new cyber facilities at Gloucestershire College’s Cheltenham campus are amazing. We have our own dedicated space now for cyber and IT students. It’s got everything we could possibly need to give us the best experience here and prepare us for industry.

Our tutor, Michael, has a background in digital forensics. He doesn’t just teach the subject, he can give us real examples from his own experience of presenting forensic evidence in court cases and working within the cyber industry.

I am coming back to Gloucestershire College in September to complete my degree. By the end of next year, I will have a UWE Bristol BSc (Hons) Information Technology Degree and I’m looking forward to going on to have a career in cyber security.
