The First Extended Certificate is broadly equivalent to studying four GCSEs at grades A* - C. As such it is a good vocational choice for those students who have an interest in technical IT but who have not achieved suitable GCSE grades to start on our suite of National Diploma courses. The Level 2 First Extended Certificate gives a firm foundation in all IT disciplines.
Your knowledge and understanding will be tested through a mixture of vocationally relevant assignments and online tests (Units 1 the online world & 2 technology systems are tested online).
Assignments usually involve a high-degree of practical work although some will require you to complete background research before starting the task.
Most assignments will involve you doing work outside scheduled classes although your lecturers are fully committed to give you support when you need it.
At Gloucestershire College we want students to develop their English and maths skills so that they achieve their learning goals and future career aims. For this reason all full-time students who have not achieved grade A* to C English language or maths GCSE will study these subjects as part of their course.
