This course prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.
You will study:
- How to plan and provide effective education that will enable children to progress and prepare for school
- Understand Child development from 0-19yrs.
- Assess children’s learning and development.
- Health, well-being and safety
- Safeguarding
- Support children with additional needs (SEND)
- Working in partnership with parents, colleagues and other professionals

T Level Technical Qualification in Education and Childcare is a nationally recognised qualification which will enable learners to progress into employment with children.
The course is two years in length and you will be required to attend 2 different placement settings for a maximum of 750 hours during this period. There is a dedicated work placement officer to help with this if required.
You will need to complete and pay for a DBS check in order to attend the placement requirements of this course and sign up for the update service.
How will I be assessed?
Year 1
- 2 written exams
- Employer Based Project (to be completed in college)
Year 2
- Occupational Specialism Component
- Synoptic Assignment
The industry placement will be used for the assessment of skills for all occupational specialism, early years students will be required to demonstrate specific skills in the placement, which will be observed by as assessor and then moderated. Tasks will be observed during the students time working in the industry, this is because the skills and knowledge being assessed cannot be validly assed in any other context. For example, students are being assessed on their ability to work with nursery groups or classes of children and demonstrate their skills in doing this.
