Ideal if: you want to take your first step towards achieving your goal working in the media make-up industry and have dreams of becoming a Make-up Artist.
You’ll learn: the art of applying make-up and creative make-up artistry.
Expect: a practical course learning basic hair artistry alongside make-up up artistry with related theory such as health and safety, client care, anatomy and physiology for the make-up artist.
You’ll love: the chance to pursue some exciting work experience in this field with our Level 3 Media Make-up students at College shows and events.
If you love the idea of working in the media make-up industry and have dreams of becoming a make-up artist, this is the first step towards you achieving that goal. You will be equipped with make-up skills, which will allow you to progress on to our level 3 Media Make-up Artistry course, leading to a career in the exciting world of media make-up.
You may study techniques such as:
- Apply basic make-up through to fashion make-up
- Instruct clients on how to apply make-up
- Eyelash and eyebrow treatments to compliment makeup
- Body art design and application
- Basic photographic make-up and different lighting techniques
- Basic hair skills including hair ups and dressing hair to compliment makeup
- Creating an image based on a theme
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Health and Safety working practises for the makeup artist

The Makeup Studio at our Gloucester Campus offers learners the chance to train in facilities which are industry standard and will enable you to develop your skills in consultation, customer service and current techniques, giving you the confidence to give pre and after treatment/service advice using a variety of professional makeup brands.
Throughout your training programme you will be required to practise your skills on your peers to develop your skills and you may take clients to gain the widest possible range of experiences and employability skills. As in a professional environment, students will be expected to give our clients the highest possible customer care and portray a professional image.
Students are expected to source their own models for mock assessments and final exams to encourage working on lots of different faces in readiness for industry.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to take the first steps in becoming a make-up artist and you need to be creative, have imagination and be willing to take part in extracurricular activities, which will help build your skills and knowledge of the make-up industry and prepare you for Level 3.
At Gloucestershire College we want students to develop their English and maths skills so that they achieve their learning goals and future career aims. For this reason all full-time students who have not achieved grade A* to C English language or maths GCSE will study these subjects as part of their course.
